This Website is dedicated to exposing the lies, deceptions and distortions surrounding the Platte to Park Hill (P2PH) Stormwater Systems project in Denver and its connection to the lowering of I-70, as well as its connection to Mayor Hancock’s North Denver Cornerstone Collaborative (NDCC), which includes the I-70 project.

The Menu along the top has the following pages which help describe how the two projects are inextricably connected:

THE BIG LIE has two Papers explaining the timeline of events that created the decision to lower I-70 in some of the City’s poorest neighborhoods, and then build a giant water project to protect it from flooding.  It’s a good starting point to understanding just how deep the connection is between P2PH and I-70.  One Paper is shorter (condensed) and one longer (Expanded), but both are essentially telling the same story of how this all came about, the Expanded version doing it in more detail.

Source Docs has the important City Documents most relevant to P2PH and I-70, including the three main ones described in THE BIG LIE Papers.  There are also secondary Documents and Videos to help form a more complete picture of P2PH and I-70.  All Documents are in their entirety, unedited, and as they’re found online in pdf format.  They are primarily a reference source and more easily understood under Excerpts.

Excerpts has the important sections pulled from the Source Documents (the three main ones as well as the secondary ones) that really form the backbone of THE BIG LIE Papers.  The Documents are highlighted to show where the Excerpts came from, but are otherwise the same Documents as those found in Source Docs.

Glossary is a complete list of all the acronyms of the numerous projects and agencies found in the Source Documents and Excerpts, and discussed in THE BIG LIE Papers.  Relevant lists of acronyms are also found in the Excerpts themselves and the Expanded version of the Papers, for easier reference.

Now What? offers suggestions for how to use this information to ask serious questions of our Public Officials, including City Council Members, the Mayor and his City Administration, and CDOT.  The goal is to require Officials to publicly take a stand.  If that stand seems less about actual facts, Documentary Evidence, and the record of events and more about the “story” sold to the public, they’re pressed to justify their position when evidence exists to the contrary.

The purpose of this Website is to allow any citizen to become informed- to learn about these Documents, what they show vs. what we were told by the City and CDOT, and to understand better the environmental, social, and economic consequences of lowering I-70 in our poorest neighborhoods and then building a giant drain to protect it.  The information here stands as a record against spin, propaganda, and forgetfulness regardless of how it is spun by powerbrokers or the media going forward, or even how it is perceived by fellow-residents over time.  It’s a repository of facts and information for any interested person to reference, with the idea that the truth about what happened and how it happened is always important and will always be relevant (even if it seems ”..they got away with it..” or “..it’s just business as usual..”).  This information acts as a backstop to expose all the lies and misinformation of this particular project (and hold those Officials accountable who did so), as well as a learning device to help recognize and prevent these types of spin-machines from being successful when they arise in the future.

I’m a Denver native who grew up in Park Hill in the 60’s and 70’s.  After serving in the Air Force, I returned to Park Hill in the 90’s to work for an airline.  I then watched my city get demolished one neighborhood at a time by developers, and then by a Mayor and Council largely bankrolled by developer interests.  I joined City Park Friends and Neighbors (CPFAN) in 2016 to fight misinformation put out by the City.  After the lawsuit to keep historic City Park Golf Course (CPGC) from being used for stormwater Detention failed, I did a 6-month research on P2PH and I-70 to put all the pieces together that had been alluded to in articles, documents, court hearings, and elsewhere.  Three Documents showed the City’s true intention to build a giant drainage project to protect large city-favored developments, while telling quite a different story to the public.  Regardless of whether they were successful in this endeavor, I felt compelled to get this information out as far and wide as possible and created this website for that purpose.  Graft and corruption, lies, spin and cronyism, and being bought by power and money seem more and more the hallmarks of our government at all levels, from the national to the local, and it is up to all of us to demand a different course from our public officials.  This transcends partisan politics.  Only exposing these types of actions and deeds will ever force change and so it is with that hope that this website was created.  Everyone needs to know about THE BIG LIE, to recognize it for what it is and when it’s right in front of you, and to help prevent more and more of the same in the future.
